MegaCon Orlando 2019

Droids, and action figures, and animes — oh, my!

No, you are not in Kansas anymore. In fact, you’ve spun all the way to the 2019 MegaCon Orlando. The South East’s largest convention for celebrating all things pop culture. This Orlando fan convention draws in 100,000 fans each year with its family-friendly venue. You can look for guest celebrity appearances, themed vendors as well as panels, and workshops.

This is a yearly, four-day convention for fans of comics, sci-fi, horror, anime,
gaming, and all things in between. They host a unique cosplay contest called the “Masters Of Cosplay”. Any guest over the age of 13 is eligible to enter the competition. This for the chance to travel to Toronto to compete in the “Masters of Cosplay Grand Prix” and to win a $5,000 cash prize.

But, you don’t need to compete to come dressed in your best cosplay. The 400,000 square foot venue is packed with a range of roaming cosplayers with outfits of various themes and complexity. From Spiderman cosplay, to MarioKart group costumes. There is a spot for every fandom to join in to become their favorite character for a weekend.

MegaCon Orlando hosts an exciting set of voice actors, award-winning cosplayers, and visual artists. 2019 MegaCon hosted Zachary Levi. Zachary is best known for his staring role in the 2019 blockbuster film Shazam!. The atmosphere is unique for admiring Shazam! fan art and taking pictures with Shazam cosplayers. Then meeting the face of the popular comic book character is what MegaCon strives to create.

Other popular celebrity appearances throughout the weekend included David Tennent (Dr. Who, Good Omens), Peter Cullen (Transformers), and Christina Vee (Sailor Moon, Miraculous).

MegaCon hopes to bring people together, not only through the love of fandoms and art. But by reuniting some of the people that drew fans attention to their favorite movies. Remember movies. such as, Back to the Future, The Goonies, Lost Boys, and Boy Meets World? Well the cast members were brought together throughout the weekend. Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd were found together reminiscing about time-travel and DeLoreans, While Sean Astin and Corey Feldman discussed how careers began at a young age when they ventured towards a lost treasure in 1985.

Each fandom and artists draws their fans in for unique reasons. MegaCon 2019 shows the variety of people and passions and in a space that is open and accepting for expression and excitement over these interests that we all share.
