Brightly colored floats from the Bayport Parading Society and Mystic DJ Riders Mardi Gras Parade in Mobile Alabama. Loud, energizing music. People lined up along the streets. Squealing sounds of delight could be heard while onlookers where catching beads, bears and moon pies being thrown from each float. Mardi Gras was definitely in full swing!
Floats from the Bayport Parading Society and Mystic DJ Riders Mardi Gras Parade in Mobile Alabama.
The Bayport Parading Society is not a mystic or secret organization. It’s essentially a place for Mobile-area businesses that wish to parade. It was created after the Joe Cain Procession became so large that it had to be capped. The newer group, the Mystic DJ Riders is an offshoot of the MLK Monday Mystics.
Those parades have become so float-laden, there’s very little room for so-called additional units. That means the growing number of DJ wagons were left out, so organizers thought, why not build a mystic society around them
