Do you ever wish that you could time-travel to the 16th century?
How about, experience the mysticism and wonder found in Renaissance folk tales? For the past 28 years, The Florida Renaissance Festival has provided a space for those who feel they were born in the wrong century.
The 28th anniversary of the Florida Renaissance Festival is hosted in Quiet Water Park from February 8 – March 22, 2020. With over 100 hundred vendors and over 100 entertainers, the month and a half long festival is the largest Renaissance festival on the south end of Florida. The festival grounds were filled with costumes, reenactment performers, and activities — all less than an hour away from Miami.
The opening weekend of this year’s festival hosted an array of entertainers, from sword fighters to comedians to dancers.
Florida native known in character as “Christophe the Insulter” performed his act to his cult following audience. He has gained a following for his Renaissance fair performances, where he roasts the audience members with wit and charm.
The musical group known as Celtic Mayhem performed their musical set with their unique combination of harmonies and acoustics. They place themselves in their own category of Irish rock that combines both traditional Celtic folk with contemporary influence.
Let your ears take you back in time…
The musical performers were diverse in style, as the group Cu Dubh, a tribal drum and bagpipe were also featured. They performed original “dark heavy metal bagpipe and war drum” songs, showing that the tribal warrior lives on through all of us. While in full tribal warrior dress, the group delivered an intense and musically gifted experience.
The MooNiE Show, an immersive silent comedy show, provided family fun entertainment through the versatile acting skills of MooNiE (otherwise known as Philip Earl Johnson). The MooNiE Show travels across the country, playing headlining shows and festivals.
The Washing Well Wenches, winners of the Renaissance Festival Awards’ Best Comedy Stage Act two years in a row, performed their interactive comedy routine throughout the weekend. This all woman group has travelled the world, and are dedicated to providing “good clean fun from wet dirty women.” This year, the group had their own stage at the Florida Renaissance Fair called the Washing Well Stage.
The festival also hosts a Trebuchet demonstration throughout each day. The Trebuchet was originally used as weapons against castle walls, but now finds itself as an educational and entertainment attraction for the Florida Renaissance Fair guests.
Looking for a Family Friendly Weekend? Look to the Renaissance Festival!
Activities of the festival include games of archery, children’s rides, and an artisan marketplace. Here you can shop for glass blowing, pottery, and other assorted fine functional arts. Food is also a highlight for most guests. While serving turkey legs, pretzels, scotched eggs, and unique alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. You can most easily find a taste to meet your liking.
The mysticism of the Florida Renaissance Festival is not only found in the entertainment and demonstrations. The individual guests who travel through the fairgrounds create the welcoming atmosphere that the festival is known for. The dedication of guests in costume and character is what has made this annual event a success for 28 years.
